Ingredients
12 slices white or sourdough bread
8 large eggs
2 cups whole milk
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
6 ounces sliced smoked turkey (halal-approved)
1 onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
2 tablespoons olive oil
Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Layer sliced turkey in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Layer half the bread slices, overlapping slightly.
Sprinkle 1/3 of the cheese on top. Add remaining bread slices and remaining cheese. Scatter sautéed onions, garlic, and parsley over the top.
In a bowl, whisk eggs, milk, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper. Pour custard mixture over the strata, pressing gently to submerge bread. Let stand for 10-15 minutes.
Bake 45 minutes until puffed and golden. Rest 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
For halal compliance, use certified halal turkey products.
Use day-old bread for best absorption.
Add fresh thyme or rosemary for extra depth.
Strata stays moist for 2 days; reheat at 325°F (160°C).
Leftover egg mixture (unabsorbed) can be repurposed into frittata.
