Ingredients
- 4 slices sourdough bread (thick-cut)
- 1 cup fresh blueberries
- 4 oz Brie or goat cheese
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tsp balsamic glaze
- 1 tsp honey
Instructions
- Combine the fresh blueberries, balsamic glaze, and honey in a small saucepan over medium-low heat.
- Mash the berries gently with a fork as they begin to soften and release their juices.
- Cook the mixture for approximately 5 minutes until it thickens into a jam-like consistency.
- Remove the pan from the heat and set the berry mixture aside to cool slightly before assembly.
- Spread a thin layer of butter on one side of each bread slice.
- Place one slice of bread butter-side down in a cold skillet, then layer the cheese slices evenly.
- Spoon the thickened blueberry mixture over the cheese, ensuring you do not overfill the edges of the bread.
- Top with the second slice of bread, butter-side up.
- Cook the sandwich over medium-low heat for 3 to 4 minutes per side until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is fully melted.
- Remove from the pan carefully and let rest for one minute before slicing.
Notes
Use low heat throughout the process to ensure the bread toasts without burning before the cheese melts inside. Avoid overcrowding your pan and rest the sandwich for at least 60 seconds after cooking to prevent the hot filling from running out immediately. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and reheated in a skillet over medium-low heat.
