Ingredients
Scale
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons neutral oil
- 3 tablespoons water or milk
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/8 teaspoon baking powder
- Pinch of salt
- 1/4 cup chocolate chips
Instructions
- Select a microwave-safe mug or small ceramic ramekin that holds at least 8 ounces.
- Add flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt to the mug.
- Stir the dry ingredients thoroughly to distribute the baking powder and salt evenly.
- Add neutral oil, water or milk, and vanilla extract.
- Stir with a small spoon or fork until just combined.
- Stop mixing when no visible flour streaks remain.
- Fold in most of the chocolate chips gently.
- Reserve a small handful of chocolate chips for the top.
- Sprinkle the reserved chocolate chips over the batter.
- Place the mug in the center of the microwave.
- Cover loosely with a paper towel to prevent splattering.
- Microwave on high power for 2 to 3 minutes.
- Check at 2 minutes by inserting a toothpick into the center.
- Continue microwaving in 30-second intervals if needed until the toothpick comes out with moist crumbs.
- Remove the mug carefully using an oven mitt.
- Let the dessert rest for 1 to 2 minutes.
- Serve warm directly from the mug.
- Top with ice cream, whipped cream, or chocolate sauce if desired.
Notes
Do not overmix the batter, start checking at 2 minutes to avoid overcooking, and let the no butter single-serve chocolate chip recipe rest briefly so the gooey center sets perfectly.
